Frequently Asked Questions

What does cardboard packaging design involve?

Two things: structural design, which covers the physical construction including size, shape, board grade and how it opens, and graphic design, which is the artwork, branding and print layout. Getting both right is what separates packaging that sells from packaging that just ships.

Why does packaging design matter?

Good packaging protects your product, presents your brand well and can reduce freight costs through better sizing. On a retail shelf or in an ecommerce delivery, packaging is often the first impression a customer has of your product.

Can you design packaging if I do not have artwork?

Yes. Our in-house team can work from your brand guidelines and product information to develop both structural and graphic design. You do not need to arrive with finished files.

What files do you need for print-ready artwork?

Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop. Files should be CMYK at 300 dpi at 100 percent size, with fonts converted to outlines. Download our print checklist from the FAQ page for the full spec.

Do you produce prototypes before full production?

Yes. For new structural designs we make a plain white prototype so you can check dimensions and assembly before going to a printed sample. It is much cheaper to find issues at that stage than after printing.

What information do you need to start a design project?

Product dimensions and weight, shipping and storage requirements, any retailer specs, your branding assets, estimated quantities and budget. The more detail you give us upfront, the faster we can develop a relevant solution.

How long does the design and production process take?

Simple projects move quickly. Complex designs with multiple sample rounds take longer. Once artwork is approved, production is generally 7 to 10 business days. Being Sydney-based means we can often move faster than offshore suppliers.

Can packaging design affect retail sales?

It can. Packaging that stands out on shelf, communicates clearly and looks premium tends to perform better than plain or poorly printed alternatives. It is a real sales tool, not just a box.
